Every climber needs a belayer, someone to control the safety ropes while they climb.
You need to be 14 years or older to learn to belay (see option III below), with exceptions
made by prior arrangement and at the discretion of Rockville staff. Most group events
and parties at Rockville include our staff doing all the belaying.
Most parents learn to belay for their kids (see Option II below) but we offer a variety of options to begin indoor rock climbing.
Option I: Private Belayer
Your own private belayer for an hour of climbing.
2 Climbers: $45 3 Climbers: $60
More climbers? Call for pricing. Reservations suggested.
Belay lesson for an adult to learn how to belay for kids: $15
Kids (12 and under) day pass and harness: $14
For those 14 years and older wanting to climb and belay:
Includes day pass for climbing, belay lesson, equipment rental, and second
day pass for return visit. A $51 value.
Note: all climbers under 18 must have a waiver signed
by a parent or guardian. Waivers are available on our web site.
